It was a slow week in the art world after the wall-to-wall race through the week of Art Basel Miami Beach. A few artists, though, planned their convalescence ahead of time. Rashaad Newsome brought his merry band of voguers to St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands for the inaugural Take 5 project, where they joined the artists David Antonio Cruz, Kharis Kennedy, La Vaughn Belle, and Ocean James. Organized by the art producer Alaina Simone, the trip was equal parts vacation and work, with the five putting on performances and exhibitions that speak to the African diaspora on the diverse island, in partnership with the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts.
